Klitmøller, Denmark

How to get there ?

Follow the coast road along the North-West coast of Jutland. 10km south of Hantsholm (a major fishing harbour) is the old village called Klitmøller. The wavespot is right where the small fishing boats are pulled up on the beach.

What to bring ?

Bring both slalom and wave equipment. Expect all kinds of conditions and bring sails between 3.0 and 6.3 sq. m. Water temperature is relatively low so bring long sleeve and short sleeve suits. Forget shorties. Calisthenics leotards are not permitted on the beach.

When to go ?

The nicest time of year is June - August, but winds are better before and after this period. Normal wind direction is south westerly to westerly with port tack sailing. Occasionally the wind swings round to an easterly which gives starboard sailing. Wind strengths vary a lot but statistics average 25 knots every fourth day year round.

What to expect ?

There is a very special culture in this part of Denmark. People think a lot before they talk. Keeping a low profile is recommended - especially for rabbits and pressure cookers. Local fishermen are known for their good humour and healthy attitude. Eat fish ! All kinds, including salmon and lobster which can be bought directly from the beach when the boats come in. And eat carrots too!
There is a 400km long sand beach along the west coast. Use Klitmøller as a base for day trips to some of the many other good spots along the coast.
