Compounds (composés)
Particularité de la langue anglaise. Groupement de termes qui permet dexprimer beaucoup de choses de façon très concise.
Ca fonctionne un peu comme un train. Plusieurs termes (wagons) sont accrochés à un nom (locomotive). Les termes qui le précèdent modifient le sens de ce nom. Ces termes peuvent être :
- des adjectifs
- des participes présents
- des adverbes
- des participes passés
- des noms
à ils modifient le sens du nom et ont donc valeur dADJECTIFS. Au même titre que les adjectifs en anglais,
- ils se placent avant le nom.
- ils sont invariables (pas de 's'). Cela dit, la langue évolue vite. On trouve de plus en plus de contre-exemples.
On lit donc toujours un composé en commençant par le nom qui se trouve à la fin.
