There is, there are (il y a)

S'il-te-plaît étudiant (please-please-please), ne dis JAMAIS "it exists (a solution / an organisation, etc.)": c'est mal.
Dis plutôt "There is a solution / there are organisations, etc.) : ça, c'est bien.

• There is + singulier

There is a canny cannibal - the knock-kneed kind.
Il y a un cannibale malin, du genre genoux en dedans.

• There are + pluriel

There are king-size teeth.in his mouth - lots of them.
Dans sa bouche, il y a des dents ultra géantes, il y en a beaucoup.

Now there are major problems to be feared.
A présent, on peut craindre de gros problèmes (= il y a de gros problèmes à craindre).

There are a biologist, an anthropologist and a psychologist trying to find out how he got in here..
Il y a un biologiste, un anthropologue et un psychologue qui essaient de trouver comment il a bien pu arriver ici.

Il y aura --- there will be

Il y avait --- there was

Il se peut qu’il y ait --- there may / might be

Il se peut qu’il y ait eu --- there may / might have been

Il aurait pu y avoir --- there could have been

Il devrait y avoir --- there should be

Il aurait du y avoir --- there should have been

Il doit y avoir eu --- there must have been, etc.

 

Attention à l'influence du français !

à dans tous les cas, utilisez BE (et non HAVE)
