• THERE : Pronom sujet

There is a canny cannibal with great cooking skills. à There is + singulier
Il y a un cannibal malin avec de grands talents de cuisinier.

Oh! There is Sue Ellen jogging with Jolly Jumper. à There is + singulier
Oh oh! Il y a Sue Elen qui fait son footing avec Jolly Jumper.

There are canny cannibals you should never meet. à There are + pluriel
Il y a des cannibals malins que l'on ne devrait jamais rencontrer.

There lies a major difficulty.
Voilà un gros problème / Il y a là un gros problème.

• THERE : adverbe (= là, là-bas)

Can you see them over there ?
Vous les voyez là-bas ?

 

• THEIR : adjectif possessif, 3^ème personne plurielle (= leur(s))

Shall we leave them to their fate ?
Les abandonnerons-nous à leur destin ?

 

• THEY’RE : contraction de "they are" (= ils/elles sont, ce sont)

They're nice characters though.
